The Lord spoke the world into being. Creation was formed at the touch of His breath.
Cosmos sprung into orbit. The fire of the sun was ignited.
The first rose blossom bloomed. The first trees dug their roots deep into the ground.
Color was made where darkness was the only pigment in existence.
Sound reverberated in the ears of newly formed creatures.
The winds were set to roam the earth.
Motion was brought into the stillness, by the very breath of God.
Words Hold Power
It’s incredible the power that words can have.
The acknowledgement of a teacher. The condolences of a friend. The kindness of a father. The thoughtfulness of a significant other.
The words spoken over us have power.
Because they not only pour love upon us, but they can also leave deep wounds which leave scars on our hearts. Deeper wounds than any physical violence ever could.
I think everyone can recall an unkind word, that has pieced their heart like a knife. That refuses to dislodge itself, even as we desperately try to rip it from our bleeding chest.
Words have power.
We build walls around our hearts out of necessity for protection. We were wounded before, and we don't want it to happen again. We are afraid. We are afraid that our weakness and wounds might be discovered or, even more terrible, increased.
Afraid of the arrow that will find the chink in our armor. Find the weak point in our protection. That we will be left wounded and vulnerable. Again.
The Voices
The voices we listen to will influence the words we hear.
Read that again.
Who are you listening to?
Who/what are you letting influence your life?
The captivating voice of the world will coax you to indulge in pleasures. Promising your heart's desire but never being able to follow through. Because of the world's low commitment rate, he will only lead you to temporary satisfaction and discontentment.
The smooth, deceitful voice of the Enemy will feed you lies that trap you in shame, doubt, and fear. Caging you in guilt and repeatedly reminding you of your hopeless state. You believe his lies because they spur off of your very own doubts and insecurities.
The people whom you surround yourself with have so much to say. So full of opinions and judgements. Balancing every voice as they jockey for your attention.
You can only take the screeching in your ears for so long.
So Where Is Truth?
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." -John 10:6
In this world of uncertain and temporary things, we need truth as our firm foundation.
In John 4:43-54, Jesus heals an official's son. The father travels to meet Jesus and inquires Him to heal his sick son. Jesus replies that people desire to see signs and confirmations before they put their trust in something.
How often do we want God to confirm what He has already told us will happen, before we step out in faith and walk in the plans God has for us?
"Go," Jesus replied, "your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed." -John 4:50
How different our lives would look, if we took Him at His word, and stepped out in faith.
The official's son was healed the moment Jesus declared it, but the father did not receive word from his servants until he had already set out on his return journey home.
He left Jesus, trusting Him with the outcome of the situation.
So, what if we let Jesus speak Truth over our lives?
Would the strongholds of doubt and fear come crashing down?
Would the cage of shame and guilt be unlocked?
Would the intoxication with the world cease?
Things Would Change
"The remedy for discouragement is the Word of God. When you feed your heart and mind with its truth, you regain your perspective and find renewed strength." - Warren Wiersbe
With the truth as your foundation, you have sure ground to build your life on.
When you find truth, your life will change.
When you find Jesus, who is the Truth, your life will change.
When you trust Jesus enough to take the next step before you have seen any evidence of His work, your faith with change.
You will come to depend on Him and trust Him in all things. Through rain and shine, you will know that His word reigns.
