“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
Jeremiah 2:13
This really sums up the depravity of the human race as a whole, in a most beautiful and saddening stanza.
In His Garden we had the spring of living water walking along with us. We lacked no good thing.
The very source of our purpose and fulfillment walked next to us.
The very being that made us for Himself and who satisfies us in every way walked beside us in the sanctuary He designed.
But that was not enough for us.
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” -Romans 1:25
We had everything necessary for full and satisfying life.
How often do we exchange the fullest life for an empty one.
In Jesus, there is full life.
“Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” -John 10:7-10
In this parable (read the rest in John 10:1-18), Jesus compares us to His sheep. He is the Good Shephard, and we follow His voice. But when we follow the false shepherd—the thieves and the robbers—we will be led into destruction. It is only through Christ that we find salvation, hope, freedom, and fulfillment.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” -John 14:6
He is the Gate—the Way that we come into this new life. He is the Truth that we can build our lives on. And He is the Life—true, full, satisfying life.
Let the Spring of Living Water fill you and repair you. Making you whole again.
